The Serbian Orthodox Church and the faithful today mark the feast day dedicated to the memory of Saint John Chrysostom, a great saint and reformer who is also known as the most famous preacher in the history of the Church.
He was born in Antioch in 354 as the son of a duke. He studied Greek philosophy and, realizing Greek paganism, adopted the Christian faith. He was baptized by the Patriarch of Antioch, Meletius, and shortly thereafter, his parents also received baptism.
Saint John Chrysostom was the Patriarch of Constantinople and one of the three Holy Hierarchs. He is also the author of the book “On the Priesthood,” and due to his rhetorical abilities, he was nicknamed “Chrysostom” (Golden-mouthed). Today, he is valued throughout the Christian world, and it is said that during his lifetime, he was popular among the common people to whom he gladly addressed and interpreted the Holy Scriptures.

Beliefs
He is considered one of the most learned saints, so today, you should take a book in your hands and read at least a few sentences. In some parts of Serbia, it is still believed today that on this day, women should not take wool, thread, or needles in their hands because John Chrysostom does not want them to work on his feast day. In addition, in some areas, there is a belief that whoever breaks a thread on this day endangers their life.
