Serbian para table tennis players Ana Zelen and Sanja Bogunović won a silver medal at the European Championship, which is being held in the Swedish city of Helsingborg, in the doubles competition in class WD 5.
In the duel for the gold medal, they were defeated by the Italians Carlotta Ragazzini and Giada Rossi with 3:0. Only in the first set were our players able to match the favoured Italians, who easily won the next two sets.
Before this duel, Ana and Sanja defeated the Slovakians Alenka Kanova and Eva Matovčikova with 3:1 in the fight for second place, and at the start, they defeated their teammates Marina Minić and Željana Ristić with 3:2. Marina and Željana eventually took third place. Only gold and silver were awarded in this class.
This is the third medal for Serbia at the championship of the Old Continent; the previous two were won by Mitar Palikuća in class T 4-5, and Palikuća and Mladen Ćirić in the doubles competition in class MD 8.
