“It is necessary for us to finish this all together and for the word sadness no longer to be a collective mark of this nation,” actor and director Nikola Kojo told Danas newspaper ahead of the premiere of the film “The Return of Žika’s Dynasty,” scheduled for December 2 at the Sava Center.
Kojo wrote and performed the song “Stop Sadness” (“Stani tugo”) for the new installment of “Žika’s Dynasty,” and in an interview for “Danas,” he says he does not agree with the assessment that the track can be interpreted as a collective cry when we look at the social reality around us.
“Stop Sadness was created as a love song. And I think we no longer need a cry. The awakening of young people and taking fate into their own hands is a sign that this is the case. We need a cheer. It is necessary for us to finish this all together and for the word sadness no longer to be a collective mark of this nation,” he stated.
Kojo also assessed that it is unnecessary to talk about the level of madness into which President Aleksandar Vučić succeeded in introducing some, and tried to introduce others.
“I think historical distance is needed to understand the somatization of everything he has done to us. This psychological experiment that he performed with his associates will certainly be a subject of research. Again, I say, our luck is primarily smart children and time that has done its work. Now he can beatify and canonize and self-crown himself, even at the level of the universe with the surroundings. Nothing is worth it to him anymore. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll on us too. That is why youth, remember and learn about these atrocities. So that they never happen again anywhere,” he said.
He also said that he personally notices that pressures on the university and the cultural sector also affect artists who publicly express their views.
“I notice everything. But again, being boring with my optimism, I claim: It’s over. It’s a matter of moment. Whether cinemas and theaters will stop working, and Kolubara will show solidarity with them and education, or whether our “Council of Elders” (SANU) will say that’s enough, or whether some mothers will forbid their children to beat other people’s children, or whether prosecutors and judges will remember their oath, or whether everything will stop on its own, I don’t know. I only know that it’s over and that the crime recorders are doing a great job. In all branches, in all areas (thanks to the internet). Because what can a frantic dictator do if he doesn’t have those around him who say… ‘I was just doing my job’? Nothing. Maybe he wouldn’t have gone frantic if he didn’t have them. Maybe he would have only remained a failed dictator,” Kojo assessed.
