Teodor Vujanić won first prize at the prestigious international piano competition “Vigo Junior” and delighted world pianism legend Martha Argerich.

Young Serbian pianist Teodor Vujanić (10), a pupil in the class of M.A. Dušanka Gavrilović at the “Petar Krančević” Music School in Sremska Mitrovica, achieved a magnificent success by winning the First Prize (1st Prize) in his age category at the Prestigious International Piano Competition “Vigo Junior” in Spain, as stated in the announcement.

In an extremely strong competition of young virtuosos from all over the world, Teodor won over the expert jury and the audience with his technical precision, musicality, and extraordinary performing maturity. As the crown of this great success, Teodor was granted the special honor of performing at the final gala concert of the winners.

What kind of spectacle and manifestation of the highest world rank this is, is best evidenced by the fact that immediately after the Solemn Concert of the winners, the official opening concert of the main competition was held, featuring world music and acting greats. Performing on stage together were Maestra Martha Argerich and famous pianist Pablo Galdo, while the role of narrator in the performance of Camille Saint-Saëns’ famous work “The Carnival of the Animals” was held by legendary British actor and Oscar winner Jeremy Irons.

In addition to the won First Prize, special artistic weight is given to this triumph by the fact that Teodor’s playing attracted the attention of Martha Argerich herself. Fascinated by the performance of the ten-year-old boy from Serbia, the famous Maestra extended praises to him rarely heard on the world stage:

“He is good. He is talented. He speaks through music.”

The recognition received from an artist of such stature represents a once-in-a-lifetime event. For young Teodor, the words of Martha Argerich are not just a prize, but a deep confirmation of his authentic artistic identity and a strong wind at his back for his entire future career.

CONFIRMATION OF THE RIGHT PATH AND CONTINUATION OF A GREAT CAREER

Extremely deserving of this magnificent success is also the dedicated pedagogical work of Teodor’s professor, M.A. Dušanka Gavrilović, who has been by his side in Spain throughout the entire competition.

Such world recognition carries great weight and is an unequivocal indicator that Teodor and his professor are on the right path. Joint work, dedication, and vision that led to this success remain the foundation on which they will continue to work and build the next steps toward his great world career.

After the great triumph in Spain, new artistic challenges lie ahead for the young pianist, among which the upcoming performance in the official program of the festival “Mokranjac Days” in Negotin this September particularly stands out.
