Trophy-winning Serbian volleyball player Marko Podraščanin announced that he has ended his playing career.
“Dear volleyball. I first met you in 1998, when my father took me to a Champions League Final Four match at SPENS, in an arena filled with passion and emotion. My eyes were wide open and my heart was beating strongly. Two years later, inspired by the enthusiasm that the Serbian national team had awakened across the country by winning Olympic gold, I started training myself at one of the most important clubs – Vojvodina. I made a decision that marked every day of my life – to always give my all, without holding back and without regrets,” Podraščanin wrote on Instagram, adding that during his career he experienced difficult moments when his body told him it had had enough, while his mind had to find the strength to continue:
“But every time I chose to get back up. Because true dreams are won one training session at a time. Thanks to you, I traveled the world, discovered different cultures, learned languages and met teammates, coaches and people who became true friends. I had the privilege of playing for the three biggest clubs in the world and experiencing emotions that I will carry in my heart forever. And the fans, what a spectacle, what energy. Always there, supporting us every step of the way,” wrote Podraščanin.
Podraščanin won the European Championship twice with the Serbian national team, and also has a bronze medal from the World Championship and a World League trophy.
During his career, he played for Vojvodina, Corigliano, Lube, Perugia and Trentino.
