Aleksandra Krunić made a winning start to her Wimbledon women’s doubles campaign, teaming up with Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina to secure a place in the second round.
The Serbian-Kazakh duo defeated Leylah Fernandez and Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 after a hard-fought three-set battle.
Krunić and Danilina got off to a superb start, showing in the opening set why they are considered among the favorites for the title. With aggressive and confident tennis, they allowed their opponents to win just two games.
However, their level dropped significantly in the second set, and Fernandez and Putintseva immediately took advantage, dominating the play to level the match at one set apiece.
When it mattered most, Krunić and Danilina raised their game once again. They controlled the tempo throughout the deciding set, regained confidence in their shots, and closed out the match without any major difficulties.
Krunić and Danilina are competing at this year’s Wimbledon as the third seeds. They arrived in London following an impressive run at Roland Garros, where they finished as runners-up in the women’s doubles competition.
