Two patients were killed early this morning in a fire at a hospital in Ludwigslust, northern Germany, while at least 34 others were injured, the city’s fire department announced.
Following the outbreak of the fire, the hospital was completely evacuated. Fire officials said patients are now being cared for in a safe area within the hospital complex, according to Tagesschau.
According to preliminary information, the fire broke out in one of the patients’ rooms before spreading to the roof of the hospital’s radiology department.
Authorities said the blaze is now under control. Due to the heavy smoke, residents living in nearby streets have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
