Prince-successor Filip and Princess Danica Karadjordjevic with their children, Prince Stefan and Princess Marija, arrived tonight in Chicago, where they will spend the next ten days on their first official visit to the largest Serbian community outside Serbia.

The royal family was welcomed at the airport with song, flowers, bread and salt by Serbian children in folk costumes, members of the “Branko Radicevic” choir and the “Soko” folklore group from the Holy Resurrection Cathedral, which brought smiles to many and tears to some.

The Karadjordjevics were not welcomed as guests, but rather as someone returning among their own after a long time, and among the crowd of those who came to the airport to welcome them were descendants of officers of the Royal Yugoslav Army who had once taken an oath to the ancestors of Prince Filip, Kings Petar and Aleksandar.

CHILDREN BROUGHT A SMILE TO LITTLE PRINCESS MARIJA: The Karadjordjevics at O’Hare Airport

It is a wonderful feeling to come to Chicago, which was the last residence of my grandfather Petar and with which we as a family share many memories. Tonight felt like a homecoming after a long, long time, among these people I felt a warmth and closeness that a person feels only when surrounded by family. We are all very much looking forward to the days ahead of us, socializing with our community, meetings with brothers and sisters, and I believe we will remember this arrival in Chicago for a long, long time, pointed out Prince-successor Filip of Serbia.
