“THE END OF THE MAFIA IS CLOSER THAN EVER”: Medical students claim doctors at the Oncology Institute were forced to sign for SNS!

After President Aleksandar Vučić called elections for October 25, the collection of signatures for the ruling Serbian Progressive Party began, and employees at several companies across Serbia soon came forward, saying they had been pressured to support the regime. According to claims by students of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, employees at numerous clinics and health centers were pressured to sign in support of SNS, including the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia. The director of the institution, Milan Žegarac, however, denied to Nova.rs that there had been any pressure.

On the day signatures were being collected for the SNS list, September 11 this year, the official social media accounts of students from the Faculty of Medicine published a report claiming that employees at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia had been pressured to support SNS with their signatures.

The students also stated that the director of the Institute was among the first to sign for SNS.

“Director of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Assistant Professor Dr. Milan Žegarac, was among the first to come and sign in support of the list of the criminal regime. Employees at the Institute have been subjected to pressure and threats for days, being told that they must support the SNS list. Meanwhile, patients suffering from malignant diseases have been listening to empty promises for more than five years about a new Oncology Institute building and decent treatment conditions. We urge all healthcare workers not to give in to threats, because the end of the mafia is closer than ever!” the medical students wrote.

Following the post, the students, future doctors, told Nova.rs that their older colleagues working at the Institute of Oncology, as well as at other clinics and in almost all health centers, had complained to them that they were being pressured to sign for the SNS list.

“They were told that they had to be at the signing location and were forced to show up. This was happening not only at the Oncology Institute, but at many clinics and in all health centers,” the medical students said.

Following these allegations, we contacted oncological surgeon and director of the Institute of Oncology, Assistant Professor Dr. Milan Žegarac, who also supported the “Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia Must Not Stop” list in 2023.

However, he denied to Nova.rs the students’ claims that employees had been subjected to pressure.

“I have never pressured anyone, nor forced anyone in any way to do something like that. I don’t know where they got that from, but it is untrue. Why would I do that? It is outrageous and makes no sense whatsoever,” Assistant Professor Dr. Žegarac said.

Political pressure and blackmail of this kind are not limited to healthcare workers, but also affect other employees at state-owned companies.
