A mother and her 16-year-old son were encountered by the German border police last Monday in the early morning hours at Memmingen Airport, upon returning on a flight from Belgrade.
Since the summer holidays in Bavaria had not yet begun, the police officers found it suspicious that the minor was returning from abroad during the school year, so they questioned them further.
The mother claimed that her son only had classes later that day. However, a check with the school revealed that the student did not have permission to be absent, but had instead been reported as sick.
According to German media, it is suspected that the illness was falsely reported so that the family could extend their vacation and travel to Belgrade.
A complaint will be filed against the mother for violating the Bavarian Education Act, and she also faces a fine.
