Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today in Osečina that The Hague wanted Ratko Mladić to die behind bars.

He said that he had been in contact with Ratko Mladić’s son for a long time and that the state had tried to help as much as possible, but also to bring his life to an end in Serbia.

– It was clear, I announced that he had 7 days to 5 weeks left, as you can see, we knew precisely, and even more precisely those who did not allow it. Several questions arise here. That investigation they are conducting, we were waiting for the Mechanism’s conference this morning at 10 o’clock, but in the end there was none. We still know nothing – he said.

Vučić added that teams had been sent to The Hague to help with logistics, transportation and everything else.

– Let’s see what the family’s plans are. For now, I cannot say anything, since we have received nothing from The Hague. And everything I read in the media is untrue. I also spoke with Dodik, we cannot say anything until we receive the family’s wishes. We have heard the possibility that the General will be buried in Belgrade next to his daughter, but whether that will still be the case, we do not know – Vučić said.

He then said that “we now see that The Hague wanted him to die behind bars.”

– They did not want him to die in Serbia, where he wanted to. This is unprecedented, anti-civilizational behavior. These days I have witnessed the most severe pressures, both from the region and from the country and the world. Who among us will more strongly curse the deceased general. I will not take part in that – the Serbian president said.

He then said that he could guarantee that if the family wanted him to be buried in Serbia, help would be provided to ensure that it was done in a dignified manner.

– Secondly, and very importantly, this campaign they are waging is not a campaign because of the late General Mladić, this campaign is about the future and further pressure on Serbia. So, as I said, on September 16, the verdict in the Hashim Thaçi case will be delivered. And, lo and behold, the 15th is our national holiday – Vučić said.

Let us recall, the President of Serbia began his visit to the Mačva District today with a visit to Osečina, where he will open the Plum Fair. Minister Adriana Mesarović is also attending the opening of the Plum Fair in Osečina.
