In the village of Radonjica, a village near Leskovac, a bizarre case occurred. Namely, unknown persons cut down 228 pear trees belonging to Božidar Stamenković from this place.
Stamenković says that at the police station in Vučje they unofficially told him that “when it comes to physical persons, they don’t really have an obligation to react”, writes “Jugpress”.
Boško is 85 years old, his wife Danica is 87, and they live alone. It is assumed that the pears were cut down about ten days ago, and he noticed the damage when he went to spray the orchard on Thursday morning.
Then he noticed that about twenty trees were cut down and felled, and that another 200 plants were cut, which had not fallen, was noticed by a certified expert, whom they brought out to assess the damage.
It amounts to more than three million dinars.
When Stamenković noticed that the pears were cut down, he immediately notified the police station in Vučje.
He reports that the police officers only walked through the orchard, and that no one from their investigative services came out to the field.
The police asked the orchard owner to submit an expert’s report, which was done.
Then they unofficially said that the police do not really have any obligation to deal with it because it concerns damage inflicted on a private person, that the law has changed, and similar. This was conveyed by police officers who also receive a salary from the taxes of Boško and his wife, reports Jugpress.
As a reminder, under Serbian criminal law, the authorities are obliged to ex officio initiate proceedings if the value of the damaged/stolen property is greater than 5,000 dinars.
