Plane disappears near Paklenica National Park in Croatia, with the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service also on the ground.
According to 24sata.hr, 25 Croatian Mountain Rescue Service members are currently at the scene.
Croatian Air Navigation Control informed the Operational Center of the Civil Protection Directorate of the Croatian Ministry of the Interior that today, August 21, 2026, at around 4:14 p.m., the signal of an ultralight aircraft bearing registration D-KWZE, which was flying from Czechia toward Zadar, was lost, the Civil Protection Directorate announced.
They added that the signal was lost 17 miles northeast of Zadar.
The Operational Center of the Civil Protection Directorate launched a search and rescue operation. Members of the Zadar and Gospić Civil Protection Services, police officers, firefighters, as well as teams from the Zadar and Gospić Croatian Mountain Rescue Service stations, were dispatched to the scene, they said.
Two people were on board
According to initial unofficial information, there were two people aboard the aircraft. The plane was flying from Czechia toward Zadar before, under circumstances that have yet to be determined, crashing on the Velebit mountain.
The search for the missing aircraft has also prompted the deployment of the State Civil Protection Intervention Units from Split and Rijeka, equipped with a command vehicle, drones and equipment for nighttime terrain searches.
The operations base has been established at the Starigrad-Paklenica Croatian Mountain Rescue Service station, from where the further actions of all participating services are being coordinated.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions, an aerial search of the area is currently not possible.
