WORLD CHAMPION AND OWNER OF THE FASTEST KNOCKOUT KILLED: Famous boxer Zolani Tete gunned down outside his home!

South African boxer Zolani Tete, a former world champion in two weight divisions, was killed Friday evening outside his home in Mdantsane, South Africa. He was 38 years old. According to preliminary police information, Tete arrived at his home at around 6:30 p.m. and was waiting in his car for the gate to the property to open. At that moment, two armed and masked attackers got out of another vehicle and began shooting.

A 27-year-old woman was in the car with Tete and was also shot multiple times. She was taken to hospital, where she remains. Tete attempted to escape by driving into the yard, but he suffered fatal injuries. The attackers fled and police are searching for them.

The death of one of South Africa’s most successful boxers was also confirmed by Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie.

– Two armed men wearing balaclavas got out of a car in Mdantsane and killed one of our greatest world champions right at his own doorstep. They are still at large. I urge anyone who saw, heard or knows anything to come forward. Someone in that community knows who did this – McKenzie said.

He emphasized that he did not want to speculate about the motive or the perpetrators while the police investigation was ongoing.

– South Africa has lost one of the best fighters it has ever had. There are no words that can make up for what his family has lost – he added.

Tete was one of the most successful South African boxers of his generation. He won the IBF super-flyweight world title in 2014 by defeating Teiru Kinoshita in Japan, before moving up to a higher weight division.

He won the WBO bantamweight world title after defeating Arthur Villanueva in 2017, and held the belt until 2019, when he was knocked out in the third round by John Riel Casimero.

In his professional career, he recorded 29 wins, 22 of them by knockout, along with four defeats and one no-contest.

He secured a special place in boxing history on November 18, 2017, in Belfast. Tete knocked out fellow South African Siboniso Gonya after just 11 seconds of their WBO title fight. He dropped Gonya with his very first punch, a right hook thrown after approximately six seconds.

The referee quickly stopped the fight, and the Guinness World Records book still lists the bout as the fastest knockout victory in a championship boxing match.
