Partizan basketball players suffered their third consecutive defeat in the EuroLeague. The black-and-whites lost in the 8th-round match 76:78 (17:18, 24:15, 15:25, 20:20).
It is unbelievable how Partizan managed to lose this one. Partizan had everything in their hands during most of the game. In the third quarter, they even had a double-digit lead, but… Partizan managed to waste it in that third quarter, which turned out to be fatal.
However, Partizan came back in the final period and led through most of it. They had everything under control, practically on the verge of victory, especially when they went up by five points.
But then came the old weakness that has haunted Partizan for a long time — the inability to stay calm in key moments.
Partizan rushed too much at times, there was no player to steady the situation, which was ultimately taken advantage of by Will Clyburn, who hit a three-pointer almost from half court, silencing the Arena and crushing Partizan.
Unbelievable, but the black-and-whites will have to think hard after this match.
The game started off nervously, as neither team managed to score on their first possession. Barcelona got the ball, but Jan Vesely made a mistake, Vanja Marinković stole it but missed the three, and the first points came through Aleksej Pokuševski, after which the game picked up pace.
Partizan struggled with creation at the start, while Barcelona played faster in transition with a lot of individual actions. Tomáš Satoranský hit a three-pointer to tie the game, then Clyburn scored on a fast break, and Tornike Shengelia made free throws to give his team the lead — 6:10.
Partizan managed to score through Washington, but then Barcelona hit two consecutive threes. First Shengelia scored, then Will Clyburn — 10:16 — after which Željko Obradović called a timeout.

After that timeout, Partizan played much better, going on a 7:2 run to end the first quarter. Sterling Brown scored, then Bonga hit a three, followed by Marinković to close the quarter — 17:18.
In the second quarter, everything turned around for Partizan as the excellent run continued. Dwayne Washington opened the period with a three-pointer, then threw an alley-oop to Tyrique Jones, who slammed it in.
Washington then hit another three to lift the Arena to its feet, and Tyrique Jones fired up the crowd with a monster block — 25:18.
Partizan didn’t stop there, as Bruno Fernando dunked as well, while Barcelona continued to miss. The crowd also saw Nick Calathes enter the game, but he didn’t make an immediate impact.
After that, Barcelona managed to get back into the match — Bruno Fernando dunked, Jan Vesely scored, and hit a mid-range jumper right after, before Satoranský tied the game, but Washington immediately answered with another three — 32:29.
By the end of the half, Shengelia went twice to the free-throw line and made them all, while Tyrique Jones dunked once and scored again from the line. Finally, Osetkowski went to the line and with his first points closed the first half — 41:33.
At the very start of the second half, Partizan managed to maintain their lead, as Tyrique Jones scored nicely. Then came a surprise — Jan Vesely hit a three-pointer, after which Tyrique Jones scored and drew a foul — 45:36.
Although Partizan had a double-digit lead, Barcelona managed to cut it down. Kevin Punter hit a tough three-pointer plus a foul, then Tornike Shengelia scored over Dylan Osetkowski and followed with a three-pointer — 50:45.
Partizan entered a crisis — Kevin Punter protested a technical foul, Vanja Marinković missed the free throw, and Punter then threw the ball out of bounds after Bonga pressured him. Kyle hit a mid-range jumper, and Willy Hernangómez went to the free-throw line — 52:49.
Hernangómez went to the line twice and made only one, but Barcelona managed to turn it around after Dario Brizuela hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter. Sterling Brown missed a three-pointer at the buzzer — 56:58.
The fourth quarter mirrored the entire match. The teams traded points and exchanged leads possession by possession. Partizan had a three-point advantage with three minutes left but became nervous.
In the end, everything was shattered by Will Clyburn’s half-court three-pointer.
