Commander of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), Igor Žmirić, has been taken in for questioning at the premises of the Internal Affairs Sector (SUK), Danas has learned.
In addition to Žmirić, his deputy, Goran Filipović, has also been taken in.
According to information obtained by Danas from several sources within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the two men were taken in on suspicion that, during the summer, while serving as members of the Unit for the Security of Certain Persons and Facilities (JZO), they took part in the abuse of student Nikolina Sinđelić and her colleagues in the garage of the Serbian Government building.
Questioning Underway, Awaiting Prosecutor’s Decision
According to Danas, questioning of Žmirić and Filipović is underway, and the competent Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade is expected to state whether they will be placed in custody for up to 48 hours.
Danas contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs to confirm the information, but was told that only the prosecutor handling the case had access to such details.
So far, there has been no official confirmation that either man has been placed in custody, nor has it been announced what decision will be made following the questioning.
The detention of the two police officials comes as part of the proceedings concerning suspicions of student abuse in the garage of the Serbian Government building.
The next steps in the proceedings will depend on the decision of the competent prosecutor’s office and the results of the checks being carried out by the Internal Affairs Sector.
