Mlađan Đorđević first appeared in Serbian political life as one of the leaders of the 1992 student demonstrations, when he was also part of the delegation received by Slobodan Milošević.
He is remembered as a man deeply involved with Kosovo and Metohija, his place of origin. This includes his roles as special advisor to President Boris Tadić for the southern Serbian province and as the founder of the humanitarian organization “Naša Srbija,” which for years helped children of those killed, kidnapped, and missing in the wars of the 1990s.
Politically and privately, he is connected to Dragan Đilas, whom he has known since his student days and with whom he is also a koum (a type of spiritual kinship). Professionally, he is tied to Russia, where he spends a significant amount of time.
Today, he is the president of the opposition political party “Oslobođenje.” We took the opportunity of his visit to Chicago for an interview in which Đorđević discusses the betrayal and sale of Kosovo and Metohija, student protests, police brutality, and the chances for citizens and students to peacefully remove Vučić’s regime from power…
