Miomir Kecmanović has advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament in Acapulco, and he did so with the biggest win of his career – defeating the world’s fourth-ranked player Alexander Zverev after an epic battle, 6:3, 6:7(3), 7:6(4).
Nearly two hours and 40 minutes of top-level tennis, two tie-breaks and the fall of the Australian Open semifinalist – all at a moment when Kecmanović needed a triumph like this the most.
Reaching the quarterfinals of an ATP 500 series event is in itself a huge success, but even more important is what this victory symbolizes – confirmation that the potential long spoken about in Kecmanović still exists.
The Serbian tennis player entered the season in poor form, even facing the threat of dropping out of the Top 100, but he managed to remain stable. Now he has shown that he can return to where his quality truly belongs.

Kecmanović opened the match furiously. In the first six games he did not allow Zverev to find his rhythm, converting his first two break points – in the fourth game for 3:1, and then in the sixth for 5:1. Although the German tried to fight back, the first set went to the Serbian without major problems. In the fifth game of the second set, Zverev saved two break points and stayed alive. The set went to a tie-break, where from 3:3 the German took control and forced a decisive third set.
There – drama. In the seventh game, Kecmanović saved his serve for 4:3 and remained mentally strong. A new tie-break was inevitable, but this time Miša showed composure. At 5:4 he secured two mini-breaks and sealed the sensation!
For a place in the semifinals, Kecmanović will face Frenchman Terence Atmane, who defeated Spanish talent Rafael Jodar in three sets.
The confidence that comes with such a victory could prove decisive in the remainder of the tournament. It may be too early to speak about a title, but one thing is certain – Miomir Kecmanović has shown that he can defeat the best in the world.
And when you beat the fourth player on the planet, the limits are far wider than they seemed just a few days ago.
