Aleksandra Krunić failed to reach the title at the French Open even on her third attempt. The Serbian tennis player and her partner Anna Danilina were defeated in the women’s doubles final by Kateřina Siniaková and Taylor Townsend with a score of 6:2, 7:5.
The Czech and the American showed once again why they are considered one of the best doubles teams in the world, but the match could have taken a completely different course.
After convincingly losing the first set, Krunić and Danilina played much better in the second. They managed to make a break, take a 5:3 lead, and come just one game away from winning the set and returning to the match.
Right there, perhaps the crucial moment of the final occurred. The Serbian woman and the Kazakh woman had two set points, but they did not use them. Siniaková and Townsend managed to get out of a difficult situation, and then completely turn the momentum of the match around.
At the score of 5:5, a new blow followed for Krunić and Danilina. After several missed opportunities, the rivals made a break, and then calmly served for the title and a great celebration in Paris.
Taylor Townsend was in a particularly good mood, dominating at the net in the most important moments and bringing crucial points to her team, while Siniaková maintained the advantage with her experience and reliable serves.
For Aleksandra Krunić, this is the third French Open final in the doubles competition and the third defeat, so the Serbian tennis player will still have to wait for her first trophy from the Paris clay.
Although the end of the match brought great disappointment, reaching the final confirmed once again that Krunić still belongs at the very top of world doubles.
