The Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government, Snežana Paunović, stated that she would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo in 1998.
The minister and vice-president of the Main Board of the Socialist Party of Serbia, who is originally from Peć, spoke to Kurir about the war and her departure from Kosovo and Metohija, and on that occasion said:
“I would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo in 1998. And this is the harshest qualification I have ever uttered in my life. But, not in a way that I would liquidate them, the way they are trying to ethnically cleanse Kosovo to this day. Rather in a way that anyone who feels less of a resident of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia should leave it and go to their home country,” Paunović said.
She then spoke about her experience.
“I don’t have a picture from my childhood, I brought two of Uroš’s 200 toys, we just locked the full apartment and left. When I returned, well five or six years later, and got the opportunity to see my apartment for the first time, it no longer had a single faucet. It looked terrible, they carried everything out like termites, they cut the radiators.”
She also talked about how Serbs are returning to Kosovo and Metohija, how their children are staying, and how it will never be “ethnically clean”.

Who is Snežana Paunović?
By the way, the official biography of Snežana Paunović states that she was born in 1975 in Peć. It also writes that she is a graduated economist by profession, but not at which faculty she obtained that title.
“In the period of 2006-2013, she performed the function of coordinator of the Municipal Assembly of Đakovica and the Municipal Assembly of Dečani, to which she was appointed on two occasions by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. Since 2014, she has been performing the function of acting director of the Pharmacy Institution Peć. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, a member of the Board of Directors of ‘YUQS’, president of the Supervisory Board of the ‘Nikola Tesla’ Airport, and a member of the Shareholders’ Assembly of the State Lottery of Serbia,” reads the biography, as reported by Istinomer.
She has been a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia since 1992.
“Over several mandates, she was a member of the Main Board of the Socialist Party of Serbia, and since 2012 she has been performing the function of secretary of the Women’s Forum of Serbia,” the biography states.
She is the vice-president of the Main Board of the SPS since April 2024.
She was first elected as a member of parliament in 2013, and then after the elections in 2016, 2020, and 2022.
In the assembly convocation from 2020 to 2022, she was a member of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism, and Energy, deputy chairperson of the Committee on Culture and Information, as well as a deputy member of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management and the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija.
At the constitutive session of the Parliament of Serbia, held in early August 2022, she was elected as a vice-president of the parliament.
In the parliamentary elections held in December 2023, she was re-elected as a member of parliament in the Assembly of Serbia, as the fourth on the list “Ivica Dačić – Prime Minister of Serbia”, and retained the position of vice-president of the parliament.
In April 2025, Prime Minister-designate Đuro Macut proposed her for the Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government in the new Government of Serbia.
