Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he was “astonished and saddened” by the video in which an Israeli soldier destroys a statue of Jesus with a hammer in southern Lebanon.
“I condemn this act in the strongest possible terms,” Netanyahu said in a post on the social network X.
He also emphasized that the Israeli Army, the IDF, has launched a criminal investigation.

“Strict disciplinary measures will be taken against the perpetrators,” the Israeli Prime Minister’s post reads.
“Israel is the only place in the Middle East that respects freedom of religion for all. We regret this incident and any pain it has caused,” Netanyahu stated.
The incident was previously condemned by the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, who called for “swift, severe, and public consequences,” while the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs assessed that it was a “serious and shameful” act.
