HISTORIC SUCCESS FOR SERBIA: Mia wins bronze at the European Alpine Roller Skiing Championships!

The European Alpine Roller Skiing Championships were held in Spain last weekend. Female senior athletes from the “Besna Kobila” Ski Club, which has 40 active members, also took part. Mia Dedinac won the bronze medal, while Anastasija Stojanović also made it into the European elite.

Speed, adrenaline and historic success on the asphalt of Spanish Vilablino. Serbia has won its first-ever European medal in Alpine roller skiing. Mia Dedinac finished third in the giant slalom. To complete her success, she also finished 15th in the parallel slalom and 16th in the classic slalom.

“A lot of work, effort and sacrifice went into this medal. Unfortunately, I suffered a serious injury last year, so overcoming that was also difficult, and I think this is a kind of crowning achievement, both for me and for everyone, showing that I can, know how to and am capable of doing this,” said Mia Dedinac of the “Besna Kobila” Ski Club.

The competition on the course included world and European champions with much more experience.

“So the competition was strong, and as for the course itself, in previous years it didn’t really suit us. However, this year everything fell into place, the course setup suited us, and the new asphalt they put down suited us as well,” Mia Dedinac said.

Anastasija Stojanović, also a member of the “Besna Kobila” Ski Club, also made it into the European elite by taking 19th place in both the giant slalom and slalom, while she finished 20th in the parallel slalom among competitors from across the continent.

“This means that, representing Serbia and our club, we had two athletes in the top 20, which is quite an achievement, and I can freely say it is the biggest success of our club and Serbian roller skiing in general. To even go to such a major competition, the European Championship, and then return with a medal and two top-20 finishes is a huge success for us,” said Đorđe Dedinac of the “Besna Kobila” Ski Club.

As early as the beginning of September, Mia and Anastasija will compete in the World Cup final in Italy, followed by their participation in the World Roller Games in Paraguay in October. They now face demanding training sessions as they look to continue their success in South America.
