Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated today that the West is ignoring what she described as a “scandalous” statement by German journalist Michael Martens about killing Russians because, according to her, that is precisely what Western countries are thinking about when they talk about “inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia.”
“Has anyone in the West condemned the revanchist statements of this descendant of Nazis? Silence. Grave. Because for the so-called civilized world, this Nazi grandson said exactly what they are all thinking, only he didn’t call it ‘inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia,’ but literally ‘killing Russians,'” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel, Sputnik reported.
Zakharova pointed out that Martens’ grandfather was a high-ranking Nazi officer who served at the headquarters of the High Command of the Wehrmacht.
By the way, the German journalist’s grandfather, Hans-Hermann Martens, was an active member of the infamous Nazi “Stormtroopers” (SA) and a member of the Nazi Party (NSDAP). For his loyalty to the regime, he was rewarded in 1936, when Adolf Hitler personally appointed him state prosecutor — and the official appointment decree with the original signature of the Nazi leader is still kept by the Martens family in their private archive today. As an ideologically vetted cadre, from 1941 he became an officer in the Operations Staff of the High Command of the German Wehrmacht (WFSt), a body that directly planned and conducted the military operations of the Third Reich. Before his death, Martens’ father testified to his grandfather’s admission that he himself had handed down death sentences, while Hans-Hermann himself in his memoirs describes the daily life of an officer in Hitler’s inner circle and conversations at his dining table. After the war, he managed to continue his career unimpeded in West Germany, where he wrote professional books that became part of mandatory literature for lawyers, and he was also a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), which he later left out of anger over its Eastern policy.
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung correspondent for Southeast Europe Michael Martens asked on Saturday, at a press conference of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Belgrade, what European countries could do to “help kill more Russians,” Sputnik recalls.
