At the moment when Vučić’s regime is experiencing an implosion and its criminal-police branches are beginning to exterminate each other, someone has, in the good old UDBA manner, chosen the Students’ Memorandum on Kosovo and Metohija as a convenient topic to divert attention.
A Memorandum in which, btw, there is nothing controversial, except to those in Serbia who do not recognize the Serbian Constitution and territorial integrity, and it seems there are many of them.
On one side, there are Vučić and his camarilla, who swear by Kosmet in the media while selling it out on the other side, no longer even trying to do it secretly.
On the other side, there is a mishmash of the opposition, among whom are those on the regime’s payroll, but also those who are desperate and hate the students because they are snatching their electorate away, as well as the non-governmental sector, which no longer even knows who it works for, but definitely not for Serbia. Not even for the civic one, in whose name it often performs.
In such a situation, and since, heaven forbid, it would be counterproductive for the regime if the first-line echelon of Vučić’s media and public ventriloquists took on the role of critic, the task to spit on the student body was given to the backup echelon of the opposition and the non-governmental sector, along with a few idle hands on duty from social networks.
That mercenary camarilla in unison threw curses and hexes at the Serbian youth because, allegedly, as Žarko Korać said:
“It is a severe defeat to choose national defeats as a guide for the future. The regime you are fighting against was created precisely on the Kosovo myth.”
The students, smart as they already are, bless them, soon replied to Mr. Žare, with the words:
“This regime was created on the Kosovo myth as much as the Spanish Inquisition was on Christianity!” (Complete with a smiley face).
A similar lesson was received the other day by Olja Bećković, when in her show she mockingly asked the students “and where exactly did they win?”
It is simply unbelievable how certain individuals, who are in principle against this regime, the closer the elections get, become all the more bitter and sarcastic towards the only force that can take that regime apart into its component pieces and return it to factory settings.
And just as the Inquisition drove faith into the confused and the schismatics, so too our vaunted encrypted opposition, together with the Doubting Thomases from the public sector, bewildered by their deals, dilemmas, and fears, tries to project onto the students the virus of doubt, sale, surrender, and betrayal, which individuals contracted long ago in the halls and offices of various services, funds, and embassies. Or at a family dinner, it’s all the same.
Fortunately, unsuccessfully.
But let’s go back to the Memorandum, which hurts the Progressives, and chafes some others….
It sounds miserable, but at this moment, the students are the only ones in Serbia adhering to the Constitution and invoking it, which they unequivocally state precisely in the mentioned Memorandum, where without phantasmagoria and sugarcoating they speak about the territory they are not giving up, along the way highlighting the harsh reality in which it finds itself, and to which, by their politics, actions, and inactions, more or less, both the regime and a part of the current opposition and civic activists have brought it.
Unlike Vučić, who during these 14 years of absolute power has gifted Kosovo practically all elements of statehood except formal recognition, and the opposition which is relieved that someone else did instead of them what they would have done too, if only someone had offered it to them in a combo-pack with coming to power, the students stick to what is written in the highest legal act of the state they are trying to normalize.
And as such, they represent an anomaly in Serbian society, based on cheap deals and behind-the-scenes tallies, which always have a personal, and never a state interest as a background.
Let alone a national one…
But alas, all the above-mentioned belong to the establishment of people who long ago chose their path of hopelessness and nothingness…
What would be a real tragedy is if, with their last twitches, before the fog of history swallows them, they influence even a single decent civic- and liberally-minded voter, who is sick of the decades-long manipulation of the concept of Kosovo and Metohija, and who on that election day, which is getting closer, could stay within their four walls, or vote for one of the opposition parties, which, it is completely clear by now, would be a direct vote for Vučić to stay in power.
And that then will not mean only the loss of Kosovo, but also the permanent loss of Serbia, the kind that lies in the heart of every sincere patriot, left or right, civic or national.
