Red Star Belgrade lost to Barcelona in the 4th round of the Champions League group stage with a score of 2:5.
The scorers for Barcelona were Martinez in the 13th, Lewandowski in the 43rd and 53rd minutes, Rafinha in the 55th, and Lopez in the 76th minute. For Zvezda, Silas scored in the 27th minute and Milson in the 84th minute.
After four played matches, Zvezda is still without points, while Barcelona recorded their third victory and has nine points. In the next round, the red-whites will host Stuttgart on November 27th, while Barcelona will host Brest a day earlier.
The match was played at the packed “Rajko Mitić” stadium in front of 55,000 people.
We witnessed a very exciting first half. In the fourth minute, Elsnik shook the Catalan net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Barcelona took the lead in the 13th minute. Rafinha crossed from a free kick on the left side, Inigo Martinez escaped Rodić and headed past Ilić.
Zvezda was looking for their chance from dangerous counter-attacks on Barcelona’s high defense and from one such attack, they managed to equalize in the 27th minute. Rade Krunić played a deep pass to Silas, who got past Peña and beat the Barcelona goalkeeper for a euphoric moment at Marakana.
The Catalans took the lead again in the 43rd minute. After a good move, the ball reached Rafinha who hit the post with a shot from distance. Lewandowski was on hand to tap the rebound into the net. In the second half, it was a one-way street and another collapse of Zvezda, just like against Inter and Monaco. Barcelona settled all doubts with two quick goals, scored by Lewandowski in the 53rd and 55th minutes. Substitutions followed on both sides. Milson replaced Rodić in Zvezda in the 59th minute.
In the 71st minute, Dalsio and Luka Ilić came on for Kanga and Maksimović. Flick also made changes, bringing on Gavi, Lopez, and Olmo, and replacing the injured Koundé with Dominguez. Barcelona scored their fifth goal in the 76th minute, with Fermin Lopez as the scorer. Zvezda reduced the deficit with a beautiful goal by Milson in the 84th minute, thus improving the poor impression from the second half.
That was the final result of the match where the Serbian champions once again had the strength only for the first 45 minutes, and completely collapsed in the second half. On the other hand, Barcelona showed why they are perhaps the best club in the world at the moment.
