The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced today that bad news has arrived from Moscow regarding gas.
“Our job is to look after people’s lives, not to undermine the fundamental principles of law and justice. Perhaps Dubravka took a harsher stance than she should have, because there is still room for discussion. On Monday, I will present some of our ideas to Dyukov, which I believe are favorable to the Russian side. Whether the Russians will accept them or not, I am not sure. It is important that people understand how fair Serbia has been toward our Russian friends,” said President Aleksandar Vučić.
He reminded that he personally received calls from Charles Michel asking Serbia to suspend flights to Russia, and noted that Serbia did not impose sanctions on Russia.
The President said that yesterday he spoke with Director Bajatović, who was in Saint Petersburg, and confirmed that Serbia does not have another refinery.
“Another piece of news has arrived from Moscow — they have offered us a gas contract valid until New Year’s. I said that this is disappointing news for us, because we expected the contract to be extended until May, as we have always been more than fair and reliable partners in every respect. Why only until New Year’s? Because they want to tell us that if we proceed with nationalizing NIS or take any similar action, they could cut off our gas supply on December 31. To me, that is a bad message in every sense. The Americans told me to sign it — that they would not impose any sanctions, as long as we carry out the nationalization. But we are not a communist country, and that is the last thing we could ever do. I could not give my word to that,” the president explained.
