A debate erupted on social media after Albanian football club Elbasan decided to hold its pre-season preparations in Serbia, more precisely on Zlatibor.

The team’s coach is Ivan Gvozdenović, a former Red Star Belgrade footballer, and this move has been criticized on social media by sections of the local public, at least from some smaller circles.

Friendly matches have been arranged against Zemun, as well as against Dečić, a representative of Montenegro.

One commentator under the name “AlbanianScout” claims that the name of the Serbian club was also written in Cyrillic and that this presents a problem.

The discussion then turns to Fatjon Bunjaku, a former Elbasan player who recently passed away, and links him to Afrim Bunjaku, a police officer from Kosovo and Metohija who was killed three years ago during a conflict in the north of the province.

All of this has been placed in the same context, leading to the conclusion that it is inappropriate for the club to come to Zlatibor for preparations, where it will remain from July 22 to June 2.
