Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Traffic Police Administration within the Police Directorate, stopped U. Ž. (28) with an interceptor patrol near Zemun last night at around 10 p.m. after he was caught driving an Audi at a speed of 203 kilometers per hour on a section of highway where the speed limit is 100 kilometers per hour, according to an official statement.

The driver was immediately removed from traffic, and a misdemeanor charge for reckless driving has been filed against him.

Since the beginning of this year, members of the Traffic Police Administration operating interceptor patrol vehicles have detected nearly 20,000 traffic violations, including 143 cases of reckless driving.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is urging all road users to respect speed limits and other traffic regulations, particularly as the period of the year with the highest number of traffic accidents involving fatalities and injuries is approaching.

Speeding remains by far the most common contributing factor in traffic accidents resulting in casualties, which is why responsible behavior by every driver is crucial to ensuring the safety of all road users.
