Novak Đoković, the greatest tennis player of all time, spoke about the political changes in Serbia at a press conference held ahead of the start of the Paris Masters.
“I have always represented my people, not the government. There is a big difference,” Đoković said.
The Serbian tennis player was asked a question by a journalist who had visited Serbia the previous week and, as he put it, had never seen so many happy people. The journalist added that many of the people he spoke to had told him Đoković had been treated unfairly by people in high positions in Serbia, who had tried to discredit and criticize him. He wanted to know how Đoković had dealt with such treatment, considering all the achievements he had dedicated to his country and the fact that he had always emphasized his patriotism.
Interviewer: “I was in Serbia and there were so many happy people. People say you’ve been treated unfairly by the Serbian government. What has that been like to deal with?” Novak Djokovic: “I am patriotic, but I’ve always represented my people and never the government. There’s a big difference. I’m happy with these changes and hopefully things will be great and prosperous for our country in the future.” https://t.co/7F9KHJCTL9

Đoković did not want to speak about the previous period.
“I will not talk about the past or comment on it. The past is the past, and I hope this is a new beginning for our country. Yes, I am a patriot, but I have always represented my people, not the government. There is a big difference. I am happy about these changes and hope that our country will do well and make progress in the future,” Đoković said.
