Citizens and students from across Serbia gathered at the Student List’s final pre-election rally in Slavija, titled “Victory Is Calling.” Some had arrived after several days of walking from the north, south and west of the country.

Students from the universities in Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac and Novi Pazar also came to support their colleagues in Belgrade.

At the “Victory Is Calling” rally, candidates from the “Student List – Students Are Winning” electoral list read statements outlining their positions on the judiciary, education, healthcare, agriculture, the economy, workers’ rights, the environment, the media, and Kosovo and Metohija.

Among the candidates who told the crowd that “freedom is coming” were Aleksandra Štimac, Jugoslav Ristić, Aleksandar Vasov, Zlatko Kokanović, Marija Maruna, Milena Božović Mančić and Milena Petrović.

Dr. Ilija Srdanović, the top candidate on the Student List, also addressed the crowd, as did Professor Aleksandar Čupić, who sang the song “Come On, City, Everyone Stand with Our Young People.”

Srdanović stated that “a seat in parliament is a responsible public office.”

“Anyone who gets one must know to whom they are accountable for it. We know to whom we will be accountable. Our mandates will be in your hands, in the hands of the people. Therefore, one thing is certain: on October 25, Serbia will win, and you know why. Students are winning,” Srdanović concluded.

Fireworks went off before Ilija Srdanović’s speech, while the number three was projected onto nearby building facades.

“They’re finished,” “Pump It Up” and “Victory,” the crowd chanted.

Professor Aleksandar Čupić of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, who is also a candidate on the list, addressed the crowd with the message: “It smells like freedom.”

The Student List candidates took a joint oath, and the speakers left the stage holding up copies of the Serbian Constitution as the song “March on the Drina” played.

After the speeches, students and citizens danced a traditional kolo in Slavija, after which the crowd gradually began to disperse.
