A serious traffic accident occurred yesterday at around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Roosevelt Street and Queen Maria Street in Belgrade, in which a young man sustained life-threatening injuries.
According to initial information, the accident occurred when the driver of a “Volkswagen Touran,” Afghan citizen A. M. D. (19), who holds a probationary driver’s license, was driving along Roosevelt Street from the direction of Cvijićeva Street toward King Alexander Boulevard in the left traffic lane.
Upon reaching the intersection with Queen Maria Street, the 19-year-old failed to obey the traffic sign requiring drivers to continue straight, instead suddenly turning left and directly hitting a “Honda” motorcycle ridden by M. B. (33).
Due to the force of the impact, the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained extremely serious injuries. He was unconscious and in critical condition when he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors were fighting for his life.
Testing determined that the Afghan citizen had no alcohol in his blood at the time of the accident.
