Eight Serbs were arrested in a large international operation in which members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Criminal Police Directorate, the Service for Combating Organized Crime participated, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime. As part of this operation, a search was carried out at several locations on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in which one luxurious vehicle of the brand “Mercedes” and 16,000 euros were seized.

In Germany, three people were arrested, one of whom is a citizen of Serbia, and criminally acquired assets worth five million euros were seized.

This operation, in which about 500 police officers from the mentioned countries participated in the arrests and searching of 45 locations, represents the culmination of a complex investigation into large-scale drug trafficking, money laundering, and arms trafficking.

The coordinated operation targeted several people residing in Germany who are considered key figures in the Balkan Cartel. The investigation showed that this criminal cell is responsible for the deliveries of several tons of cocaine, originating from Colombia, and that money laundering was carried out through business entities and assets in numerous countries within the European Union and beyond.

In previous operations, Europol and its partner countries had already dealt a significant blow to the Balkan Cartel. Intelligence data, obtained by police officers during the operation, pointed to a sophisticated and well-organized network that is active worldwide.
