Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in Moscow that the negotiation process regarding the fate of the NIS company is ongoing, reminding that the company was established based on an intergovernmental agreement between Serbia and Russia.
“The negotiation process is underway. I know that the Serbian leadership addressed the US, because it was precisely their request that the company, which was created based on the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Serbia, was fulfilling, but that is a specific characteristic of the Americans,” Lavrov pointed out.
He added that the United States, according to him, with its unilateral sanctions, pressures, and abuse of the dollar, “is undermining the globalization that they have been building for decades and recommending to everyone as the main treasure of humanity.”
He reminded that the intergovernmental agreement between the two countries states that the nationalization of NIS cannot happen without mutual consent.
“Under what conditions can consent be reached on the nationalization or on some other form of solution to this problem? Perhaps the solution is to find a way for NIS to continue working, regardless of the possibilities the US has to penalize this company. I do not know, the Minister of Energy and the corresponding economic operators are dealing with this, as well as companies in your neighboring countries that cooperated with NIS. But I have no doubt that fairness should always be the criterion. Otherwise, we create precedents for many other countries, and no one needs that,” Lavrov stated.
Let us recall that Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) has been under sanctions by the United States of America since October 9, which demand that there be no Russian ownership in the company.
