The Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) submitted a new supplemented request to the administration in Washington before midnight for a delay of US sanctions, RTS reported.
NIS is seeking a new license to be able to continue operating smoothly even after Wednesday, October 8, when the previous deferral of the full implementation of sanctions, which the United States is imposing due to the company’s majority Russian ownership, expires.
So far, the sanctions have been deferred eight times: six times for a month, then at the end of September for just four days, until October 1, and finally for one more week.
NIS had previously reiterated its request this month to be removed from the sanctions list, in which it allegedly offered to sell 11.3 percent of its shares, as well as an obligation to purchase a certain quantity of crude oil from the US.
“NIS also submitted a supplemented request on September 28 for removal from the SDN list (Specially Designated Nationals), which is a lengthy and complex process, with the initial request having been sent on March 14 this year,” the oil company’s statement this morning said.
