Gordana S. M. worked in Germany for 36 years, from where she came back to Serbia to build a monument for herself.
There would be nothing unusual about that, if Gordana had not left a somewhat bizarre message to her family, engraved on the tombstone.
“36 years in Germany I worked hard, grieved, cried for my homeland, family, for those I loved more than myself. Today, 3 years in the homeland those for whom I lived say that I hate them, that I am a malicious woman, it shows in my eyes. That’s why I am raising a monument for myself because they are not obliged to make a monument to such a woman who has done them so much harm. And despite everything, I will love them even when I die,” Goca told her family.
Dobrivoje Antonijević also built a monument for himself while still alive and engraved on it the date when he will die.
He is 89 years old and comes from the village of Roćevac, near Svilajnac, and as he says, he took the grave plot in this village about 15 years ago, and immediately after that he decided to build the monument.
“I felt it myself. Many were surprised. The man who made the monument told me that this is the only case of a man predicting when he will die,” says Dobrivoje.
As he says, he chose the same day and month as when he was born, but in the year 2030, and he says that date was the easiest for him to remember.
