A great success for Hamad Međedović in Barcelona. After eliminating the world number seven, Alex de Minaur (Australia), in the 2nd round, the young tennis player from Novi Pazar advanced to the semifinals by defeating the Portuguese Borges with 7:6 (8:6), 6:2.
For a place in the final, he will play against the winner of the match between Macháč (Czech Republic) – Rublev (Russia).
This is Međedović’s first semifinal of a 500 series tournament in his career, and it has brought him a placement at the 68th spot on the ATP rankings, from his current 88th position.

The first set passed without break opportunities, with secure play on serves from both sides. However, in the very end, Borges reached a set point, but Međedović responded – with an ace on his second serve!
In the tie-break, the Serb had the lead, then fell into a short crisis, but in the key moments he raised his level of play and with two great points from 6:6 reached the lead.
The Portuguese player fell psychologically at the start of the second set, which Međedović immediately exploited. He made a break at the start of the second set, then a second one for 5:1 and practically settled the match.
Borges managed to get one break back, but he did not have the strength for a complete comeback.
In the end, Međedović routinely brought the match to a close, used his second match point with a spectacular passing shot, and began a great celebration with his team.
