Police in Niš have identified a 58-year-old man from the Svrljig area who is suspected of the criminal offense of killing and abusing an animal.

“He is suspected of killing a dog with a knife in a village near Svrljig, a dog that was cared for by a 49-year-old woman, and then throwing it into a public swimming pool,” police said.

FIND OUT MORE:

A criminal complaint will be filed against him in a regular procedure, as ordered by the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Niš.

Horrified eyewitnesses reacted to the incident, and a description of the event appeared on social media.

“After a verbal argument at the pool in Popšica, he grabbed a puppy that was walking there, slaughtered it, and threw it into the pool. Don’t expect mercy or pity… Although the municipal crew from Svrljig arrived quickly and cleaned the pool, the bloodstains are still there—Thank God there were no children to see that,” a Facebook post stated.
