European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has spoken out on the social network X regarding the protests in Serbia and the incidents that accompanied them across the country last night. Kos expressed concern about the violence that citizens suffered at the hands of the police throughout the evening.
“Reports of violence during recent protests in Serbia are deeply worrying. Progress on the path to the European Union requires that citizens can freely express their views and that journalists can report without intimidation or attack,” Kos wrote.

Protests Across Serbia and Police Brutality
Last night, students in the “blockade” movement called on citizens to protest under the name “Serbia, wake up.” Protests were held in as many as 30 cities in Serbia, and in Belgrade alone, people gathered at five locations.
Throughout the evening, police were present, separating citizens from supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party and brutally beating anyone who got in their way. The abuse of citizens did not stop, and horrific scenes from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Pančevo, and all other cities in Serbia have disturbed the public.
