Out of a total of 99 permanent members, 25 members of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts have signed a petition demanding the resignation of Aleksandar Vučić, Danas learns.

We are publishing the demand for Vučić’s resignation and the list of signatories in full.

Guided by the highest interests of the people and the state, deeply concerned for the future of the Republic of Serbia, we hereby publicly demand the resignation of the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, due to the collapse of the democratic, institutional, and social foundations of our country.

In the past period, we have witnessed:

-The collapse of the electoral process, through manipulation of voter lists, vote buying, and abuse of state resources;

-Control over the prosecution and courts, which has seriously jeopardized the legal certainty of citizens;

-Suppression of free press and media pluralism, with the usurpation of national television frequencies and the transformation of public service into a propaganda tool of the authorities;

-Excessive national debt, without public debate and control, which threatens the economic stability and future of coming generations;

-Covering up criminal affairs that shake the public, with the protection of responsible individuals;

-The emergence of widespread corruption, rigged tenders, and complete non-transparency in the work of state bodies;

-The demolition of the basic pillars of society – education, healthcare, science, culture, and art – which have been brought to a state of chronic crisis and neglect.

We demand resignation not for political motives, but due to the moral responsibility we feel towards the citizens and the future of Serbia. We believe that no individual, not even the President of the Republic, has the right to destroy the democratic order and jeopardize state and social interests for the sake of personal or party power.

In a time of serious crisis and growing social polarization, we believe that the resignation of Aleksandar Vučić is the only possible step towards opening space for dialogue, restoring institutions, and rebuilding citizens’ trust in the state.
