The girl who hit and seriously injured a student with her car during the January protests in Belgrade has been released from detention, the High Court in Belgrade confirmed for KRIK today.
Although she was initially charged with attempted murder, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office amended the indictment last week and now charges her with a serious offense against public safety.
As KRIK reports, the girl is therefore no longer in danger of being sentenced to 10 years or more, but can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison.

The High Court in Belgrade also announced today that she has been released from detention, where she had been since January, and told KRIK that the case will be transferred to the Third Basic Court because the criminal offense has been mitigated.
The girl hit a student with her car who was a marshal at a protest in New Belgrade on January 24th, after which she tried to flee, but students and citizens who were protesting stopped her until the police arrived and arrested her.
