Students who participated in blockades across the country have reiterated that the only way to fulfill their demands is the removal of the current government. In the show “Utisak nedelje” (Impression of the Week), students emphasized that, despite months of pressure and demands, the current government has shown no willingness to meet their demands and for institutions to start functioning, and therefore they demand the calling of early parliamentary elections.
Alija Jahović, a law student at the State Faculty of the University of Novi Pazar, pointed out that they did not anticipate that the blockades would lead to this situation, but that they are aware that the government shows no desire to meet their demands, reports Nova.rs.
“We believe that the only way to fulfill our demands is the reform of the institution itself, and that can only happen with the removal of the current government. Specifically, the first demand is addressed to the prosecutor’s office. We believed that the prosecutor’s office, under pressure, would stir from the clutches of the regime. However, we have not achieved much in terms of fulfilling the demands. We are aware that this government will not fulfill them,” says Jahović.
Dimitrije Prokopović, a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Niš, emphasized that calling elections is not the end of their actions, but only a means to accelerate the process of fulfilling their demands.
“We are exerting pressure on institutions with the desire for them to wake up and do their job, and that is not happening. Calling elections does not mean an end to our blockade; our blockade is here until our demands are met,” explains Prokopović.

Sofija Brajer, a law student at the University of Belgrade, pointed out that although they gave them a chance for something to change in the last six months, the situation has not improved.
“We are demanding elections today, tomorrow, and we will demand them until they happen. We have come to these elections after giving a chance for some progress in these six months. Not only did that not happen, but we were forced to set new demands as well. We are aware that this government has not fulfilled the demands after six months, and we have no choice but to demand the removal of this government,” says Brajer, adding:
“We have many lawyers in our country, among whom one is particularly prominent, who is said to be the best student of the University of Belgrade. The prosecutor’s office is responsible for our first three demands, and also for the fifth and sixth. The President of the country is not responsible in any universe for our demands, and as for the elections, our Constitution is clear, Article 109. The President dissolves the Assembly at the proposal of the Government. Finally, we can say that our President is finally responsible for something. Let me remind him, he is responsible for that, for everything else, not really.”
Novak Simin, a student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences at the University of Novi Sad, emphasized that the institutions had six months to do their job, but they did not.
“There has been a change of government, but the institutions still do not do their job and do not fulfill our demands. We are aware that there is a political crisis and problems, and we want to address the competent institutions so that our demands are met,” says Simin.
