Students, citizens, and assembly members blocked Aviation Square in Zemun tonight as a sign of protest against the arrest and detention of Agriculture Faculty student Lazar Mišić.

They unfurled a banner across the square that read “Students win.”

Traffic has been stopped in both directions, and containers have been pulled into the middle of the street.

As a reminder, citizens and students were gathered today for more than four hours in front of the Palace of Serbia and the headquarters of the UKP (Criminal Police Directorate), demanding the release of the student who was detained after previously being held at the airport.

Around 8 p.m., an employee emerged from the Criminal Police Directorate building and informed the crowd that student Lazar Mišić, who had been apprehended, was transferred to the Savski Venac police station, and that while he has been ordered into 48-hour detention, the inspector leading the case said he would be released tomorrow morning.

However, those gathered expressed distrust and decided to take further action.

In the meantime, the Tomanović Law Office announced that Lazar Mišić was deprived of liberty without a valid legal basis and demanded his immediate release.

In a statement from Lazar Mišić’s lawyer, the Tomanović Law Office stated that Mišić was arrested at the Belgrade airport today upon returning from a trip.

The office assessed that by arresting Mišić, the “anti-student campaign of the political and state leadership of Serbia, which criminalizes and dehumanizes Serbian students, calling them terrorists and destroyers of the state… wants to convince the citizens of Serbia that these are attackers on the Constitutional order.”

“An organized hunt against the student followed on command in the regime media by planting identical findings from an alleged investigation, media trials, and suggesting the length of a prison sentence, as well as rejoicing that a terrorist has been arrested,” the Office announced.
