Željka Cvijanović, the representative of the Serbian people in the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, believes that the process being conducted against Milorad Dodik is political persecution.
In a statement for Serbian Times, she emphasizes that the judicial system has been abused:
– The political persecution of President Milorad Dodik by the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the direction of Christian Schmidt, an unelected foreign official from Germany, must be properly defined : This trial is a glaring example of lawfare—where the legal system is weaponized to target and dismantle political opposition under the guise of justice. In this case, it is being carried out by an unelected foreign official who does not represent a single voter in the country where he imposed “his will”, Cvijanovic says and adds:
-What we are witnessing is a calculated effort to undermine a democratically elected leader for standing up for his people’s sovereignty and values. This is similar to the political persecution in New York, Georgia and in federal courts where political opponents manipulated and even changed existing law in an attempt to deny President Trump the right to run for office. And some shameful examples of the weaponization of the judiciary in Europe indicate that it is not lagging far behind on this issue.
She believes that in such a situation the Republic of Srpska and its representatives have only one choice:
-The above abuse of the Bosnia and Herzegovina judicial system forces the legal and legitimate institutions and elected officials of Republika Srpska to fight an existential battle to preserve its constitutional autonomy and powers.
