After nearly a month of protests, farmers from Rača have won their fight to have their demands met. At today’s emergency session of the Rača Municipal Assembly, which was convened with only one item on the agenda, a unanimous decision was made to roll back the property tax increase of approximately 60% for 2025 to last year’s level.
Since January 30, farmers’ tractors have been parked in the main street of Rača, blocking traffic. However, it now appears that they will be removed starting tomorrow, as the farmers’ request to return the property tax to last year’s rate was approved in today’s emergency session.
The decision was unanimously adopted by all present council members, who are part of the ruling coalition. Farmers say this is their victory, but they will not remove their tractors until the decision is officially published.
“Twenty-eight days of struggle, blocking businesses, our fellow citizens, 18 days freezing in the streets in subzero temperatures, ten days spent inside the municipal building— and we have managed to win and overturn the decision that brought us here in the first place,” said Milan Milošević, a farmer from Rača.

Additionally, farmers secured another concession— in the future, land subject to property tax will be divided into multiple zones, instead of just two, as was previously the case.
Since their main demand has been met, farmers have withdrawn their request for the dismissal of municipal leadership. However, they plan to continue monitoring their work closely.
“We must keep constant pressure on this system for it to function—because without pressure, it simply does not work. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t,” said Jovan Golubović, a farmer from Sipić.
