EU foreign ministers have confirmed the appointment of Peter Sørensen as the new envoy for the dialogue between so-called Kosovo and Serbia.

According to reports, the decision was previously approved by the ambassadors of EU member states.

Sørensen will assume the position on February 1, as the mandate of outgoing envoy Miroslav Lajčák ends on January 31. Sørensen holds a law degree and a master’s degree from Aarhus University in Denmark. He began his career as a lawyer and also served as an officer in the Danish army.

He has held various roles, including advisor to the United Nations Special Envoy for the Balkans, head of the Political Affairs Department of the OSCE Mission in Croatia, and legal advisor to the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Carl Bildt, as well as the European Community Monitoring Mission in Sarajevo.
