The head coach of the Serbian national basketball team, Svetislav Pešić, announced that Andrej Stojaković, the son of the renowned Serbian basketball player Predrag Stojaković, has decided to play for Serbia. In the “Kida Show,” Pešić stated that Andrej had made the decision to represent Serbia, but the young Stojaković has denied this claim.
“As far as I know, he has decided to play for the Serbian national team,” said the popular coach, known as Kari. He added, “According to FIBA rules, he had to wait a certain number of years to gain eligibility, as he holds multiple citizenships because his parents were born here and in Greece.”

Greek media outlet Sport24 reported that no decision has been made regarding which team Andrej will play for and that Peja Stojaković’s family has refuted Pešić’s statement. When Andrej joined Stanford University, he expressed his excitement about the opportunity to represent Greece, which made Pešić’s claim that he would play for Serbia surprising to many. Additionally, reports indicate that there is also an option for Andrej to play for the United States.
Greek media further stated that the Stojaković family told their outlet that Andrej would not play for Serbia, a statement that Andrej himself shared on social media without further comment.
Unfortunately, it seems the Stojaković lineage will not provide a new spark for Serbian basketball.
