The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated yesterday that he would like to be prosecuted for the General Staff, saying that it is an important project for the whole of Serbia, but also one of the ugliest buildings in Serbia. The protesting students, who have been fighting for months to defend this cultural asset, were not indifferent to Vučić’s words, and they told him that they would fulfil his wish.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was in Niš yesterday, from where he addressed the public and, among other things, spoke about the General Staff complex.
When asked about reports that the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime would indict him in the General Staff case, Vučić said that he would like to be prosecuted for that case.
“I would like them to prosecute me for the General Staff, because it is an important project for the whole of Serbia, an exceptional project. I wanted it as soon as I joined the Ministry of Defense, and then as Prime Minister in 2016. We have a building that was one of the ugliest in Serbia, built by a communist persecutor of free people and free thoughts, and which was never under state protection,” he said.
The protesting students, specifically the students of the Faculty of Law who are fighting for the preservation of this cultural asset, responded to Vučić and told him “that they will fulfil his wish.”
They shared our portal’s post about President Vučić’s speech and wrote: “Agreed. We will fulfil your wish,” and put a heart emoticon.
Other students also commented on that post.
Students of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad wrote: “We support this” or “What kind of people would we be if we didn’t fulfil his wish,” and students from the Belgrade Faculty of Agriculture and the Novi Sad Faculty of Medicine also commented.
And then comments from other users of the X network followed…
We remind you that the director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Goran Vasić, has been suspected of removing the protection from the General Staff project with the help of a falsified document, and Aleksandar Ivanović is also on the list of suspects. The secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Slavica Jelača, is also suspected, and the last one questioned was the Minister of Culture, Nikola Selaković. He also has the status of a suspect.

Students spoke out about the burning of the car belonging to the prosecutor from Subotica
A part of the Subotica students condemned today the burning of the car belonging to the prosecutor from Subotica on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday and said that every act of violence against people and their property must be clearly condemned and prevented.
“Such attacks, regardless of who they are directed against, must not become something we accept as ‘normal.’ That is why it is important that the voice of the community is heard and that together we show that there is no place for such events in our society,” the students said.
The police arrested four suspected persons, including minors, and the investigation is ongoing.
Tomorrow, on Saturday at noon, there will be a professional gathering in support of the prosecutor and the prosecution in front of the court in Subotica, at the invitation of the informal group “Defense of the Profession.”
