NOTHING FROM ZVEZDA’S MIRACLE IN MADRID: The red-and-whites defeated by Real, they will have to take a harder path to the EuroLeague playoffs! (VIDEO)

Crvena zvezda basketball players were defeated by Real in Madrid with a score of 103:82 in the match of the final 38th round of the EuroLeague.

Zvezda knew a difficult task awaited them, they were aware that they were visiting a team that has only one defeat in front of its fans, but… The stakes were huge, a potential victory would have brought Saša Obradović’s team a chance to go directly to the TOP 8 phase. However, everything looked fabulous only in the first period.

The red-and-whites started in a very good way, everything was going their way. Jordan Nwora was brilliant, hitting shots as he pleased and had 11 points in just five minutes of play. It seemed then that Zvezda could achieve a miracle.

However, what has been happening all season in the Zvezda team occurred. Coach Saša Obradović decided to take out the in-form Nwora, left him on the bench, and with substitutions contributed to the team’s momentum being completely extinguished.

Zvezda started conceding points easily, and the defense that was the team’s trademark collapsed completely. Real Madrid managed to turn it around by the end of the first period, and then increased the lead.

Already during the second period, the score went to a double-digit lead, and Saša Obradović could not control his team, so everything went to ruin. Real Madrid managed to repel Zvezda’s efforts to get back into the match, and in the last 10 minutes only confirmed everything…

The most efficient for Real was Hezonja with 19 points, Campazzo added 16, Maledon 12, and Feliz and Garuba 10 each. For Zvezda, the best was Nwora with 15 points, Moneke added 14, and Izundu 10.

Crvena zvezda’s team had a great rhythm in the opening minutes, while on the other side, the Madrid team entered with a dose of intolerance, which Saša Obradović’s team used at the very beginning. Chima Moneke hit the first triple, after which Jordan Nwora was accurate twice in a row from beyond the 6.75 line. It was played in a point-for-point rhythm, and Nwora, after a point under a foul, brought Zvezda to plus four.

Facundo Campazzo broke the scoreless run, then a five-point run by the red-and-whites followed. First, Jasiel Rivero was accurate from the free-throw line, while Butler then hit from the corner for the largest lead of the visiting team up to that point. However, a “yellow minute” for Crvena zvezda followed, Feliz tied five points together, and the final basket in the quarter was the work of Theo Maledon, so at the end of the first period, it was plus two for Real Madrid.

The host entered the second quarter with five express points; triples by Nikola Kalinić and Stefan Miljenović brought the red-and-whites back into the game. But, a run of nine consecutive points by Real followed, contributed to by Lyles, Deck, and Campazzo, so Saša Obradović had to react with a timeout to stop the onslaught of the “King.”

Everything that Zvezda did in the opening 15 minutes fell through in the last five minutes of the first half; only Nwora and Izundu were scoring, while Campazzo, Tavares, and Mario Hezonja secured a large cushion of 12 points for Real at halftime, which influenced the rest of the match.

Zvezda managed to return to the match on several occasions; at about five minutes until the end of the third period, they came within eight points of the deficit after Izundu scored, and then Kodi scored for the first time in this match.

That gave a breath of hope that they could return to the match, that they could threaten Real Madrid, but a 5:0 run by Real Madrid followed. Zvezda approached again, with two minutes left they reached 68:61, they were back in the match, but they allowed Real Madrid to make a 9:2 run, which Llull crowned with a triple off the backboard in the final seconds.

Practically, the match was already decided there, and confirmation arrived in the fourth period when Real Madrid went to over a 20-point lead.
