The NBA league decided at the last moment to change the rules because of two men! They did so because of Luka Dončić, but also because of Cade Cunningham, in order to allow them to compete for the MVP award and all other individual honors.
Luka Dončić played 63 games, which means he is missing just two to enter the race for these honors, and he missed those exact two because he traveled to Slovenia to attend the birth of his child.
Now Luka Dončić has also spoken out, thanking everyone.

“I am grateful to the NBPA for representing my interests and to the NBA league for the fair decision. It was extremely important for me to be present at the birth of my daughter in December and I am grateful to Mark, Jeanie, Rob, JJ, and the entire Lakers organization for their full support and for allowing me to travel and be there,” Dončić wrote.
“This season has been special for me because of everything my teammates and I managed to achieve, and I am honored to have the opportunity to be considered for the end-of-season awards,” he concluded.
