Support for Serbian students protesting for accountability following the collapse of a canopy in Novi Sad, which claimed 15 lives, is arriving from across the globe.

Serbian citizens living in Canada held a rally of support in Toronto.

A large crowd gathered outside the Serbian Consulate, carrying Serbian flags and numerous banners. One of the slogans read: “Vučić, amigo, Toronto rises.”

Protest in Vancouver

Representatives of the Serbian diaspora in Vancouver, on Canada’s west coast, organized their first rally on Sunday, January 26, in support of the student protests and civil demonstrations that have been taking place daily in Serbia for over two months.

Held in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery, the event saw around 150 participants. The gathering expressed unconditional support for all student demands and solidarity with the citizens of Serbia seeking justice, urging public institutions and authorities to perform their duties responsibly.

Following a 15-minute moment of silence to honor the victims of the Novi Sad train station tragedy, organizers invited attendees to join another rally next weekend.

For the next event, organizers anticipate a significantly larger turnout, citing the limited time for organizing and publicizing the previous day’s protest, which also coincided with Saint Sava celebrations held in two Serbian Orthodox churches in Vancouver.
